His Adventure Begins...

Yesterday morning, with some excitement yet heavy hearts we dropped Joel off at the Mpls. airport to begin his newest journey to Daejeon, South Korea. He will be living there for a year teaching elementary and middle school Korean children English! Daejeon is a city of about 1.4 million people. The school that he is working for is providing him with an apartment. It's a brand new school; it's "ribbon cutting" is Monday and they wanted Joel there for that. He's not sure when he will actually start teaching. Please keep him in your prayers.

Hello from the Newest Member of the 40's Club!!

Hello to all!

Just wanted to thank you all for the balloon bouquet that TOTALLY blew my cover for my 40th Birthday! It was patiently waiting for me at work Friday along with several people harrassing me about turning the BIG 4 0 !!! Thought I could keep it under cover but so much for that idea!!! Thanks for all the cute cards that you all sent, too!! Eugene sent me the most beautiful bouquet of flowers to work also and Lombardi had a special card for me, too, thanks to Eugene's assistance. After working Friday night I slept a while and then drove up to our cabin Saturday where my family came over for the afternoon and then Eugene and I went to dinner Saturday night at the Nokomis Inn Supper Club. AWESOME food!! He also got me a pretty fancy new digital camera so look out at the next family gathering as I am known as the "camera queen" by my friends and family!! Now I can really go to town!!
Thank you again for thinking of me. I am so blessed to have such wonderful family!!

Hope to see you all soon!!

Love,
Michele

The Vikings Score!!

Here is a song for all of you Packer fans out there. Sing it to the tune of the theme form Gilligan's Island:

Come sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of fateful trip
That started from a small lake town
Aboard two tiny ships

The mates were a bunch of pole dancers
But the waitstaff was too pure
The Vikings team set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour

The action started getting hot
The dancers strutted their stuff
If not for the prudes in the fearless crew
There wouldn't have been such a huff

The boats turned around and went back home
The authorities came aboard
But fear not friends, 'cause all's not lost
The Vikings finally scored!

Mom is home again!

I had a great trip to Ireland! Saw lots of cool things and places. There was 4-5 rain showers most days, so it's a GREEN country. Am glad to be home again with the same bed every night!

Andersons are here

Hi everyone. Thanks for the work on the blog Eric. Well, we saw Itzhak Perlman at the Grand Theater tonight with Michele and Eugene. He plays fiddle, or I mean Violin. Sounds a lot like Michele. The weirdest thing was the pianist. About halfway through the show he sprained a finger. They called out to the audience looking for someone who could take his place. Eugene of course volunteered and ended up playing piano with Perlman for the rest of the night. Perlman said Eugene was the best ever, and asked him to come to New York and play at Carnegie Hall this weekend. Eugene said no, he had to go up north.

On a serious note, things are going fine with the Andersons. We have told some of you that we are about to move an old garage onto the land we bought east of town. Above is a picture of the garage. It is located on the part of the forty we couldn't afford. Okay, time to check on who won baseball games tonight (even though the Twins are out of the race) and then go to bed. I will encourage Ellen to contribute often.

Bye, Steve

My Summer Beach Bum Got a Job!

Just thought that I'd let you know that Scott has a new job. He will be the new general manager(new position) for Zacho Sports Center. He's really excited about it, it's just what he likes to do and it should be a "fun" industry to work in. He will be working for the son of his former boss at AOS. They are just as excited to have him work there as he is. He'll be starting Oct. 5.

Whiskey Cake Makes Everyone Happy

Judy sent the recipe for one of the tastiest sweets at camping weekend - Whiskey Cake. Remember, plese enjoy Whiskey Cake in moderation, and friends don't let friends drive after eating Whiskey Cake.

Whiskey Cake

Mix together:

1 oz. whiskey
4 eggs
1 pkg. yellow cake mix
1 pkg. (3 oz.) instant vanilla pudding mix
1 c. milk
½ c. oil

Poor batter into a greased bundt pan. Bake at 325˚ for 30 –40 minutes.

Shortly before cake is done, boil together (don’t overcook) in a small saucepan on stove:

½ c. butter
¾ c. sugar
½ c. whiskey

Pour the hot glaze over the hot cake while still in the bundt pan, making sure to get it all around the edges. (I usually poke a few holes in the cake with a toothpick or skewer before pouring on top). When cool, remove from pan.

Official Joke Selection of Camping Weekend 2005

While the joke field this year was a little slimmer than in past years, the Official Selection has to be a classic that was retold with smashing success. Eugene, a frequent joke champion, told this year's Official Joke Selection.

A daddy mole, a mommy mole, and a baby mole were digging through some tunnels. All of a sudden, the dad mole stops, sniffs around, and says, "Huh. I think I smell McDonald's." The mommy mole also stops, sniffs around, and says, "You know what, I think I smell McDonald's too." The baby mole stops too and says, "Really? 'Cause all I smell is molasses!"

Camping Weekend Officially Rocks Again

On August 5th, 6th, and 7th, the Gisvold clan packed all of their lawn chairs and a boatload full of food and convened at Pine View Campground in Fort McCoy. Although a few party-poopers left early, a wonderful time was had by all. The campground was gorgeous, with a sand-bottomed stream just behind the campground, and the bathrooms didn't even smell too bad.

Highlights definitely included the morning and evening bugle calls, and the strong relationship Max was constantly trying to establish with Ole. Emily's recounting of her trip to Europe entertained all and allowed the family to live vicariously through her recent world-traveling experiences.

Overall, another memorable camping weekend for the books!

If you have any other highlights, please email them to rasmuses@hotmail.com.
